    Hi,

I have a lounge room (4m x 5m) that has lower floor than the rest of the house (~30 cm lower = 2 steps). Its height is 2.1m.

I want to raise the room so that:
    1. It will be even with the rest of the house
    2. Change its height from 2.1m to 2.4m

Does anyone knows the cost to do it?

We did this but I can't remember the specific cost of that aspect. Complication was that the level of the floors either side of the sunken area wasn't the same so we had to get some MDF sheets to raise another area say 20mm. And other area was unlevel and required entirely replacing the subfloor. We then ran new flooring over all living areas, so say four different surfaces became one. We also had some windows & slider door that went to the floor level of the sunken area, so they had to be replaced before the new floor level was created and those in an adjacent area replaced to match (which is where a lot of the cost went). We spent about $40k all up and it took over two weeks. Huge difference though.

How do you propose to raise the ceiling by 600mm?

Building up the floor is the cheap part - false floor or concrete with void formers.

Roof truss or framing alterations will require the roof (tiles) to come off, electrical upgrades, air-conditioning modifications etc.

Might be better to turn it into an internal light well/courtyard.

Hi, I've got the same question, but it's about 40cm deep, and the room is about 7m by 5m. I wouldn't have to alter electricals or anything except one switch. The ceiling is fine as it is, matches rest of house, so just the floor. It has floorboards which could be taken out and reused on new floor, so not much in materials is needed except what is needed to put under new floor. Thanks.
