Locking a shed

    One of my rental properties has a shed located on a backyard. One walk is brick, the remaining are timber or whatever could be used to build:). This shed has a roller door with an old lock that has not been working for generations.
    The backyard is secured by the front gate that is locked and then there is one more unlocked.

    A tenant wants to be able to lock the shed.

    I went thru Vic legislation and could not find any compulsory requirement for locking a shed, particularly noting that the front gate is already locked.

    I’m just wondering if anybody can share some light in relation to the above matter.

    Couldn't your tenant buy a hasp and staple style fitting if he wants the shed to be locked?

    Nope. Noting the roller door, they want me installing a proper garage lock for free.
    I’m just wondering if such a request is legit

    I don't know the answer legally, because it seems that if there is something at the house, it should work, eg. dishwasher, over, air-con.

    But a tenant asking for either a new roller door, or for what may be clearly obviously a decades old shed and matching decades old roller door seems a stretch.

    I'd probably just say no and see what happens, but I am not giving advice as I just don't know what the legalities are.
