Mornington Peninsula shire possible 3.3 % land levy on new dewllings

Another tax apparently to fund social housing and only on new dwellings. Still a proposal at the moment but I would expect other Councils might follow...

This is honestly one of the most stupid ideas I have ever heard. There is a housing shortage so let's make it more expensive to build more houses.

You know it’s a bad policy when even the comments section of the herald sun are all against it

 

This follows on from another Mornington proposal to apply a discount rate for residents that install NEW solar panels. The crazy thing is that this discount would NOT apply to residents with existing solar, ie only applies if you install new solar (and the discount would only be up to a max of 5 years).

And the increase will be funded by rate increases on those that DO NOT install new solar (even if you cannot!), the increase dependent on how many DO opt in. Its just ridiculous.
