Yes is is sad @Islay. The Mill had an injection of funds last year but still couldn't make a go of it. I feel it will hit the area hard. Could turn Mossman into a backwater. You only have to consider all the services both direct and indirect which depended on sugar cane.

I believe my relos will be OK financially as they bought property, commercial and residential, not only in Mossman, which will be a iffy, but Port Douglas, Cairns, Trinity Beach and the like so the income would support them during farming downturns.

What concerns me they have been farming close to 70 years. Now if there is no reason to continue with it ........ you get my drift. My late wife's sister expected it to happen. He not so much.

Can't like your comment @SatayKing because I do know what you mean. My lot are dry country farmers and for them drought has been the cause of many bad times. Ironically the wet of the last couple of years for your family has probably improved the conditions for mine in the dryer areas of SW QLD and Western NSW.
Hoping for the best for the people of Mossman and surrounds. It will be a big change for many

Mrs No Mates had to go into the CBD to get a Western Australia Working with Children form.

They're not available online. What year is it?

Person at the counter searched online, sent an underling to find the hard copies, then kept searching on line

Twice today, with two different companies, I've been told that my wife can't have a login in her own name.

With the health insurance company, the claim even has to be paid into my account. The travel company emailed me two emails, both of them with my name in the body of the email, but one of them with the attached itinerary in my wife's name. Neither company would allow a separate login.

You used to be able to pick up wood offcuts from Bunnings for free. Now they charge, $1 for small or $2 for large. At least at the store I go to.

Buying firewood is super expensive. Helps offset the cost of cutting down a tree though.

I love an open (enclosed) fire and really miss it in the current house - went underfloor heating instead but ...

Buy in bulk is the only way to go - pick up a trailer load if you can - or deliver a small tipper truck

    Grump for the week.

Go for a leisurely lunch at a country pub and I end up out of pocket 20 times more than the price of the lunch. Having artwork by local painters for sale is just so wrong.

At least the gig by Bonnie Kellett was free as well as being very enjoyable.

It is better not to disagree with ones unpaid interior decorator when deciding where paintings will be placed even if that means extra work with the patching, sanding and painting the holes where pieces were previously hung.
