Good advice on flagging the bank. We recently had a card frozen for a card we used in Melbourne, being NSW based.

My daughter has had to facetime me while overseas - mygov would only allow anything but SMS for 2FA, and I had her phone.

    Sheesh interstate!

Re: the 2FA, for a few months prior to travel, you have to pay attention to everything you do/use, and consider if you will need to do it whilst overseas, and if yes, will it work?

But despite best plans there’s usually some issue, but the frustration from sorting it out is part of the fun of travelling!

They seem to be the stories that get shared!

We are in Brisbane and regularly visit Victoria.
Never had a problem with any of our cards being used there or in NSW.

I was very surprised. But I think that banks are under increasing pressure to do more about money being lost to scams.

Could be because our son lives in Melbourne and we travel there several times a year? Probably fits our normal pattern of bank usage?

Just back from 10 weeks overseas, including 5 weeks on the Cunard Queen Elizabeth. The trip was wonderful, apart from our first encounter with Covid, still recovering. Despite 6 square meals a day we came home significantly lighter!

If you don't use the lifts you end up negotiating 100+ flights of stairs each day - works for me!

I can only put it down to the Covid virus consuming calories, or some muscle wasting while we were confined to cabin. 5% body weight loss for both.

Doing Japan again at the end of the year. Anyone recommend something nature-ish to do outside Tokyo for a couple of days? Was thinking Hakone - anyone been there/have a better idea?

And whilst on the subject of travel am itching to book something more than the end of the year but I can't:
    • one of my kids doing his HSC
    • one at uni with mismatched semester breaks
    • Mrs just started new job so can't make any demands
We also did travel overseas 4 times last year so there's that . (Very) first world problems...

Yea Hakone is nice - just come back visited with a group within the last 6 months.
Lovely photos over the lake through the ‘Orange’ gates, cablecar with hopefully a view of Mt Fuji and try the black eggs.
    Nice ‘nature-ish’ area to visit.
    Good luck

Best part of our trip last year was climbing Mt Hiei in Kyoto, mainly because it was nature and away from the crowds. A good idea to enjoy the nature.

Planned a USA trip - two most exxy States, Hawaii and California, weak AUD, post COVID "taxes" i.e. eye gouging for hotels and tips etc we've budgeted 25-27k for a family of four in Dec / Jan 25.

    Looking at Thailand/Singapore/Vietnam for Dec 25/Jan 26.
