I was thinking to myself that with people likely to start self-isolating (by choice or by necessity) due to Caronavirus, then video conferencing tools like Zoom will see strong growth in coming months.

Seems like a lot of other people are thinking the same way:

I use zoom constantly to arrange meetings around the globe.

Once 5g network is up and running, can expect 3D interactive meetings and less physical meetings in board rooms

I reckon zoom, although great, will face serious competition from more integrated solutions like slack and Teams.

There are few barriers to competition in the video chat and conferencing and webinar markets. Many providers offer free or low cost options. Business users do seem to be seeking many functions that providers like zoom offer but almost all can be replicated and pose no barriers. eg registration and access functions, recorded links, digital siging integration, collaborative document or file sharing access and use in the stream and so on.

Youtube also offers live streaming functionality for unlimited numbers of attendees but that tends to be a one way channel with limited q&a etc.

Apparently investors got confused about ZOOM

    1. ZM (blue line) is the ticker symbol for Zoom Video Communications
    2. ZOOM (red line) is the ticker symbol for Zoom Technologies (a Chinese company that develops and sells electronic-communication products for mobile phones) a tiny company with less than 0.10% of the value of ZM.
Due to investor confusion the SEC suspended trading of ZOOM (and it's ticker was subsequently renamed to ZTNO)

I wouldn't touch it personally - already had a run, low barrier to entry by competitors, pandemic has a limited lifespan.

Should be feeling pretty happy about this one now! @Simon Hampel

amazing numbers and cultural shift... hoping they can be sticky enough with their user base in the future

I use zoom for meetings with my PM in western countries. In China we use WeChat. Skype has fallen off the radar. I always have issues with it loggin in from China. Zoom no problems and the west seems to be slowly catching up to on line so a lot of growth and improvements to be made. I think rony rony will shake up the dinosaurs
