If you could snap your fingers and suddenly have any networth that you want, what would it be? $1M? $1B? Or perhaps the simple life at $0?
Also, what changes would you make in life?

For me personally it would be a semi realistic $20M. It's enough for anything that I could ever want, but still not too much to hide from other people.
I'd stay in my current house, but would get a cleaner once a week.
I'd also either quit work and do charity work or I'd reduce work to 3 days per week.
Oh and all my flights would be business class! Other than that, I wouldn't make too many changes.

I dont really think you need 20M networth for those desires?

No, even $4M would allow me to do all of that that's true, but I would like a little bit more than that as a form of contingency. But you're right, $8M would probably be the same to me as $20M.

I have absolutely zero desire for any particular net worth. I just keep finding good projects to do and fo them. Along the way I am guessing I will make some money but I have no clue how much.

Agree, an instant net worth upgrade would only take away from the challenge to get there. It's the earning of the net worth that has the real value.

I feel the same, although a certain level of net worth will allow you to work only on the things you want to.
The freedom of not having to spend any more time or effort to further enhance your financial position does make a huge difference on what you get to focus your time on.

I don’t have a magic number, I would just like to earn enough not to ‘have’ to work and to be able to determine what I spend my time on...

The beauty of surpassing your dream net worth is that you can focus more on satisfying 'we' instead of just 'me'.

As we reach the pointy end - the "net worth" figure is more relevant and the requirements clearer.

We will do very nicely thanks - but if I could click my fingers and add another million, between the two of us, I'd feel a lot more comfortable

I really don't get status symbols!
Whom are people trying to impress?

I got dragged to a christening on the weekend and one guy there had a Lambo with the number plate “Versace” (it was missing a letter, but I don’t remember which one). He probably thought he was cool, I thought it was a tool.

Many enjoy cars and boats and consider it a hobby or passion and not just a status symbol. These just happen to cost a lot of money especially at the pointy end.
