Can anyone recommend a good beginners yoga video on YouTube ? I've had a look but there are so many and I haven't really got time to go through the whole lot.

I'd say go to a class or two first and get some basic moves down.

My partner has done Yoga for years, (not at any great level, just each week for a few months until the studio closes and she find another one again!), then keeps it up at home every few weeks. It's enough to keep her flexible.

I've been "attempting" some YouTube stuff in the office at work the last few weeks as I'm laid up from training with an injury, I thought I had some of the positions down until I tried them at home and got a sever laughing at!! When I was then manually positioned into the correct pose by my partner if felt so far away from what I though was correct it just wasn't funny, and boy did I feel the stretch.

There's a new Yoga mob opening a few doors down from my office soon, I'm intending to hit that once a week for a few weeks to get some of the beginner moves down then practice them at home/work. Too expensive to go once or twice a week, every week at $20 a session.

A very good basic yoga app is yoga studio. Bout $5 though, but my wife recommends it for beginners and she's a yoga nut/instructor.

@Dylan33 Did you ever try a class? A new Yoga place just opened up close to work, I went twice last week.

Wow, I can tell you, I would never have got close to what they did just following a video. I thought I was in the correct pose and the teacher would come over and just tweak me around a bit as I was way off where I thought I was.

I came out pretty sore but very relaxed and thoroughly enjoyed it. Booked in again for another two classes this week. I can definitely see how it will make you more flexible and stronger when done correctly and regularly.

I have to say, I was apprehensive at first being a bit of a self conscious, generally socially awkward guy dropping in as the only bloke and the only complete beginner in a roomful of flexible women! Tell you what though, the teacher was awesome and made me and everyone else feel very welcome and I reckon most of the women felt more self conscious than me by the fact I was there as the sole man than I did as being the sole man among women.

I'd say to any one that fancied giving it a go, try it. Find a beginners class first though, the two I wet to were for beginners to intermediate. I reckon if you rocked straight up to an advanced class it'd be a different story!

I think I'd wet to classes as well if my legs were uncrossed in strange positions.
