    And as the Finance Minister in the Greek Parliament hopefully he would maintain a fully inflation-indexed pension for life, in, thinking wishfully, US dollars...

    How is the negative gearing treated in the other countries? According to my information negative gearing is not something unique to Australia. US is another country I am pretty sure allows deduction for losses in your investment properties, even if you have some overseas vacation homes. @Dean Collins ?

    we don't have any investment property in the usa (only Australia) in the usa we have a PPOR (well for the next few years anyway).

    keep in mind we don't get to negatively gear our Australian losses against Australian income eg we can only deduct to "zero" and then the rest carries forward.
