Sounds like a good place to visit. What town is it?

Thanks. You've probably got another 20 Sydney visitors lined up to invade your town now ;-)

Maclean (to locals) is known as the town of the extra wide thong, to cater for the 6th toe.
Like to think you wouldn't fit in...... then again, haha!
Iluka : Great prawns, good fishing. It's crowded too.

Ahhhh - it's a bit hard to divert punters If you tell them what's up there. I like Yamba too.

Waterfall Way runs from Coffs Harbour up through the Bellinger valley to Armidale, so well south of the inland area behind Yamba.
There are camp spots at Bellingen, Dorrigo, Ebor and of course closer to Armidale.
Temperatures remain warm through to late May, with Armidale cooling down first, followed gradually by other towns as you descend down the mountain.
If visiting Bellingen, a must do is to call at the region known as the Promised Land. Scenery is spectacular with many fresh water cascades and swimming holes.
My personal view is that March / April are the two best months of the year climate wise as not overly hot during the day and cool enough at night to sleep well.

Sorry @TAJ, I keep thinking it is near Grafton as we sometimes go directly through Ebor on our travels.

Perfect time of year, does not get any better.
We are located just south (as crow flies) of Dorrigo and Bellingen and can vouch for those 2 places. Beautiful part of the world. Don't dismiss the Nambucca Valley especially if you want access to the beach as well as a bit of mountainous terrain.

Graces Rd, Argents Hill, just 25 mins to beaches at Nambucca Heads and Scotts Head
We have fog like this almost every morning, year round. graces_rd_argents_hill.jpg

Yes you can come down from Grafton (inland) and link up with the Waterfall Way. Turning left at the junction leads you down to Dorrigo then Bellingen. If heading to Armidale you obviously continue straight ahead along Waterfall Way.
Another area to consider is the hinterland behind Byron. Very picturesque.
Property in this region can be quite expensive due to its proximity to Byron but with less tourists.

That looks like Missabotti to me.... maybe wrong.
Scotts Head is a gem. Permanent population of around a 1000. Obviously swells over the holiday period. Good surfing and fishing with a friendly atmosphere due to its smaller community.
The Nambucca Valley is very pretty.

Def not Missabotti, I should know, it's shot by me from a drone right over our house!

Agree Scotts head very nice, property pricing reflects exclusivity as well.

The wife and I are thinking of visiting Yamba in a couple of months to have a look at Beach side properties for retirement in a couple of years. I'm from Gippsland in Country Victoria and know of people from this area that have retired there. What other small towns around that area should we look at ?. Ideally a town with a pub, bakery, coffee shop etc that's quiet and on the beach. Would the nearest hospital be at Grafton?

Have a look at Sawtell just south of Coffs Harbour.

But Maclean is where the turn-off is to Brooms Head. Fabulous spot.

There are many towns which may suit your needs here on the North coast.
I would start at Scotts Head and work my way up. Check out Urunga, Sawtell, Corindi Beach, Woolgoolga, Red Rock, Wooli, Minnie Waters, Broomes Head, Yamba/ Iluka. Further north Ballina and Byron.

Broomes Head is a great spot. A little light on for facilities but a peaceful place nonetheless.
    Great fishing!
