I believe @Steven Ryan posted something about this a little while back. I will try to find and post the link here, it was a thread that I was following before.
I've used them a couple of times for purchasing things at places that accepted them (worked out better than changing to USD due to currency rate at the time). There's a few people that 'stockpile' them as an investment, but I can't bring myself to do that as the exchanges aren't regulated and you have no way of knowing if it'll still be in existence tomorrow.
