My neighbour said that someone dobbed him into council that his private back yard grass was long. I dont even know who can see it as its in a private back yard. He had been through a hard time being sick for several weeks and had a car crash and injury and wasnt happy that council actually didnt even just leave a letter in his box but they knocked on his door.

it wasnt me, i have better things to think about.

Do you think he can ask other neighbours if they could tell him directly if they have an issue re anything or do you think its best he doesnt say anything and doesnt alert more neighbours to this incase it wasnt them.. We dont know who would do that while he has been injured in a car crash and sick the last weeks and had bigger issues to worry about

Is that common to do go around dobbing people in for long grass in their private fenced back yard in winter when its all green so not a fire hazard?

    Why is it your problem?
If he wants to ask let him.
Don't you have better things to do?

Maybe the council is using drones.

this is a similar story about someone who like my neighbour has been ill and instead of a neighbour helping a hand they judged and told the council re overgrown garden and the article urges people to check in on their neighbour and help rather than judge and tell the council or write nasty letters

Too much sniping and such by some people....council has got much better things to do.

Interrupt your neighbour - offer to help the guy cut his grass especially if you know he has been having a hard time.......
Used to be called "being a good neighbour"......

I was helping people in my neighbourhood for a while then suffered a back injury - neighbours were cooking and cleaning for me for time while I couldn't walk easily.
    What goes around come around.....:)

Our next door neighbour would have the untidiest, overgrown front yard in the area, but we like him and put it down to 'just being himself' :D

We have a sort of hedge that hides most of it and my son mows the lawn on our side of his driveway and the neighbour on the other side does the same for lawn on his side of the driveway.

    OK what's the address?

I don't mind cutting the neighbour's grass and don't mind helping out other peoples' where I can.

@justine77, why not help your neighbour by mowing the yard yourself?

Agree with helping your neighbours. We had to do some maintenance at an IP - neighbours nature strip was knee high. This was unusual. Our thoughts were - I hope they are ok and that nothing has happened - btheir lawns and garden are usually immaculate. We didn't ring council we just got the whipper snipper and mower out and mowed it for them.

I can understand why they complained with summer coming around and the increase of snakes but maybe they should have knocked on the door first and assess why the lawn hadn't been mowed in a while. The community involvement or lack of these days is sad. What ever happened to being supportive of neighbours. Few and far between these days

Justine ,I wonder why you are writing this if you have better things to think about. Obviously you have better things to do than think about spending 5 minutes to cut your disabled neighbors lawn for him. May be you need to think about you priorties. The grass may not stay green. It may be your house that gets burnt too.
