I agree. I find smokers entitlement mentality to be very wrong.
Its just how society is programmed.

If i took 10 mins for every hour to go and make a call or leave work id probably get fired

Ad the smokers arent grateful for it. They think its a given....generally speaking

how have the supermarkets brought it on themselves?
They are providing us with items for us to consume - which we are obliged to pay for. Whether it is self-serve or cashier service doesn't remove the onus on the customer to obey Laws.

correct...and this is exactly why self-serve is slowly replacing the checkout person, and why we see 10 checkouts in a supermarket or Bunnings, etc - but only 2 of them Staffed, and customers whine about no Staff at the checkouts....it will ultimately be cheaper than Staff....cost to cover theft has forced businesses to cut costs - Staff are being cut.....surveillance systems etc are on the increase....they haven't "brought it on themselves" - they have been forced into doing it....what else do you propose the supermarkets do?

The fact is theyre savings billions a year on wages.
The opportunity cost of having machines instead of human interaction with customers is that some will see the loop hole and be naughty.

So its the supermarkets choice. Obviously theyre not losing billions to theft so its a positive business decision. You cant have your cake and eat it.

I think theyve brought it onto themselves. Im just repeating my previous post but they made an active choice to cut staff wages. No one forced them to install the self serve machines. The drawback is increased theft. But they will increase their profits.

Its their choice to decide its worth and also their choice to install it in the first place

My team often goes out in a group for coffee. The bosses support this because we usually end up talking shop and solving problems.
