    Only an idiot would spend all the inheritance on a renovation as per your example.

    Anyone sensible would pay down the government part of the loan in your scenario. They would then still have $300 to spend on the reno.

    Only an uneducated person would spend all the inheritance on a renovation instead of paying out/down the government part of the loan.

    We see and hear about people making stupid mistakes everyday though :oops:

    All down to planning. People need to understand what the rules are. ‘But i thought’ doesnt cut it for functioning adults.
