looking to renovate 2 wardrobes that are 3 door hinge to sliding versions

would the upright in the middle of the wardrobe be load bearing, apart from holding up the shelf?
I wish to knock this out, so I can have 2 big sliding doors

    thanks in advance

Not likely, it looks like a door jamb.

Give it a wiggle. It looks like it's only 2cm thick. Doubt it's doing much. The top 1/4 would be doing a better job at holding the shelf up, then the bottom 3/4 pushing the shelf up, if you know what I mean.

it seems to be pretty tightly fitted so no movement.
I highly doubt its weight barring apart from the shelf. just thought I would ask

It was there for doors to hang off.

    Not load bearing
Considering it is barely 600mm from an external stud wall anyway.
    As @Depreciator said above
    I have done/converted many.
If you're really worried, check for any props (roof support posts) in the roof space, but very unlikely being so close to an external wall, and any builder worth his salt would have put a lintel across the top if that was the case.

Agree. Not load bearing. Wouldn't have the strength to bear load anyway. You can see where the hinges were on the jamb. Just a place to hang the 3rd door.
