It’s one of those metal box ones with a stove on top and metal flue, circa 1984 but it has a new flue.

It depends on what you're accustomed to.

My daughter live for a year in Calgary, Canada, where the temperature could get to -25ºC - the January average is -10ºC.

Then she moved to Sydney, and complained about the cold on single digit temperature days.

Yep, about the same number of times we switch the air-con on.

Our threshold for air-con is 40 deg :)

Too right it was cold. Absolute freezing. A case of nothing to see here. Move on.

Does that mean it's oil, wood or gas? If you put a photo up of it we could work out what model it is and help you use it?

To be honest I do too particularly non venomous pythons.

We also have the odd red bellied black snake here which are venomous but very docile. They eat the highly aggressive / venomous brown snakes so a great snake to have around.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the king browns - we had a massive one living under our house once - he was about 2m long. Pretty amazing to see him slithering down the drive and into the front gate.

My sister, who lives on a farm in Victoria, has had a couple of tiger snakes inside the house. One was snuggled up behind the fridge near the warmth of the motor, another behind the oven, another in the roof cavity above the flue.

Needless to say, she's not a fan.

Screened doors and windows are mandatory but insufficient.

Their house is owner built with a wood floor. There are probably multiple entry points.

I'm waiting to find one come in via out dog door ... touch wood nothing for the last 6 years. We do have a couple of gentle red bellies living under the house - and the house is raised on piers. Just wish the red bellies would eat the red backs that are under there too
