New fire pit installed, lit and burning fabulously ... just waiting for the coals to build, and the rain to stop, so I can give my hand made three pronged marshmallow cooker a whirl :D

p.s. cleaned out the chimney and polished up the fireplace too ... can't wait

In the Eastern suburbs you could get $39 for those "rustic" hand crafted marshmallow cookers - found a distributor yet?

I hate winter! Like Canberra but hate the weather!

We have a fireplace but no idea how to use it so it hasn’t been touched in the 4 and half years we have lived in this house...

I wish summer would last forever!

Well looks like she has ample space so if I end up the same nice to know I can come home to roasted marshmallows as we stew over our tragic drop from power.

12 acres - with the neighbours between 10-100 ... paradise once it greens up, now that this drought has broken.

After several years of next to no rain, this was us last week - but two days of lovely gentle stuff yesterday and today

I love winter - and this last summer of endless 40-ish days felt like it lasted forever. I have a well insulated open plan house and give my fireplace a real workout.

I love waking in the morning, the house is still warm and the fire is still ticking over - throw another log on before breakfast and it's crackling away within minutes. Or at night with the two dogs fast asleep on the sheepskin rugs in front of the fire and the cat on my lap - socked feet on the timber floor - fluffy dressing gown - homemade soups so thick they are almost casseroles (unless it's roat pumpkin and bacon soup and then it's like a really thick gravy) - a hot bath with red wine and a good book before diving into a warm bed - rugging up in my expansive collection of coats (I collect wild and wonderful coats like other women love shoes) before toddling out the door - leggings and knee high boots - apple crumble and icecream - rain on the roof - and frosty clear mornings ... sigh

@Lizzie, you should come to Queensland.

No need for fire pits, cleaning chimneys, ... whatever these things are.

Queensland - perfect one day, even better the next.

Winter....time to don the flanno shirt over the iron maiden Tshirt and slip on some suede ugg boots (if we can still them that without getting sued by some knob US company).

Lizzie, you need one of these Aldi barbecue grills. Just one $2 coin each.

That description sounds so cosy and peaceful ..you won me over! Reminds me of this:

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens,
bright copper kettles and warm woolen
mittens, brown paper packages tied up with strings, these are a few of my favorite things.

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudels, door bells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles. Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings. These are a few of my favorite things!!

I don't know if it's still the case, but daggy uggies used to be the fashion item of choice in Colombia for day excursions out of the house, like going shopping in the mall.

I'm with you. Canberra is far too cold for winter. We suffered a lot of winters before we installed reverse cycle aircon. Great for those 40º summers as well.

Not so, our pool temperature was 27 degrees today. Nearly passed out from sudden hyperthermia when I jumped in for my swim today. Anything under 28 degrees should be banned.
