We just got back from the Barossa ( engaged too)!
Bought 5-6 cases of wine plus 18 bottles from various places back as checked baggage on the flight..

    Had a blast.

Someone I know in Australia had tens of thousands of wine spoiled in the cellar because the "cellar" had a wall which faced the westerly sun and it got hot in there. A friend in Switzerland had hundreds of collectible bottles in a cellar he built himself under the lounge room, which has a glass roof so you walk on top of the cellar and look into it, interesting.

Myself I just take a 2 litre plastic bottle down to the local bodega (wine shop) and they fill it up from the barrel with a very tasty Rioja for 2.15 Euro per litre.

I have started putting a couple of cases of low cost reds like ingolby Shiraz along with some pepperjack amongst others with the goal of drinking in ten years time. I don't have the discipline to wait in a 389 etc to me they are drinkable now.

True, fortunately mostly screw caps these days, but opened a 2004 last week, all good.

Check out the Tudor Shiraz from.......and I'm embarrassed to say it......Aldi.

For $12 a bottle it's as good as any $30 Shiraz IMO.

Tried it for the first time a month ago and couldn't believe it was from Aldi and only cost $12.

Not something to collect or for a cellar - but damn good for the money.

Use some of that property investor delayed gratification training and leave the 389 alone for a decade or more :)

Why not, i'll give it a go. I see its Central Vic, so I'd imagine medium body.

@austing is a bandit for Aldi's wine offerings.

I buy a carton of Penfolds 389 each year, keep it till it's 10 years old and enjoy,
Otherwise I get some really nice reds with RRP of about $70 for around $30 from Cracka Wines, they phone me up about every couple of months with some great deals.
But for just open and drink anytime, you can't beat GraysOnline. Got a rather surprisingly decent shiraz for $10.57 per dozen plus $12 delivery and I had a $10 voucher. So all up delivered to my door $12.57 per dozen. It's cheaper than bottled water.

That's all well and good, but it's the waiting 10 years for the 1st one I can't deal with.

Better make it three - just to be on the safe side.

Jester Hill Wines, Stanthorpe QLD. 2010 Shiraz awarded top 3 finalist in 2013 Winestate Wine of the Year awards, beating Grange and the other posh stuff, they have loads of gold medals from other wine shows plus James Halliday etc. Everything grown and produced on site plus there's a restaurant open for lunch most days, also used for functions.

I used to like some of the organic/sulphide free red wines.

Ok Falcon you may or may not be proud of me for this but just arrived back from a week in Adelaide and I now have to purchase a wine fridge as unlike the 100 odd bottles of Kalimna ingolby and pepper jack under the stairs I am not leaving my new purchases' cellaring to chance...

I just spent a small fortune on some circa 150 wines headlined by St Henri, 389, 407, 128, dead Arm, ironstone pressings, Coppermine road, laughing magpie, no1, mamre brook, Kay brothers basket press, rifle range (unfortunately out of basket press or would have grabbed a couple too) mixed in with some more affordable bottles that will do well with 10 on them as well.

Here's to 2025 onwards when I plan to be drinking a stunner every fortnight.

And I've decided the home after the townhouse ppor I will be building this year will have to have an underground cellar as the collection will be too big for wine fridges.
