One question about this app- ok they have released the source code but will they release the source code for each update too? That is, who is to say that this version may not have any distinct privacy concerns, but what about future versions?

I have the app on Android. It keeps disappearing.

It doesn't like any sort of battery optimisation. I've tried turning off everything I can find. It takes longer each time to disappear, but it still drops off. The longest time has been around 12 hours. And the battery life has definitely suffered.

What do you mean by "disappearing" ?

It should be showing up here, in the notification section:

I spoke to a bloke in his 60s the other day and he downloaded it but didn't know how to change screens on his phone to add in the the number they SMS on registration so he hasn't set up it still.

While it's operating I get an icon in the status bar (green, it's a bit hard to see), and it shows in the notifications.

    Screenshot_2020-05-19-14-48-42-26.jpg

Then, at some stage when I've forgotten about it, it disappears from both. When I open the app up again manually, I get a screen:

Clicking on the battery optimisation checkbox, I get

    A choose allow.

That seems to work, until some unknown time when it all disappears again, and I repeat the same process.

Option 3. I can't because I'm locked into the US Google app store.

Almost 24 hours later, and it's disappeared. I noticed it was still there earlier today, not now.

    Why is that a fail?

Firstly, typical of the Daily Mail approach

Secondly, there have not been a huge number of cases, and not enough people have downloaded it for it to be really useful. And like many new apps, there have been technical problems.

    It's still early days yet.

A successful app and a vaccine are key towards opening things up.

Both of those are two weeks old. But I'm sure there are still problems, as I've already experienced.

It may take a while to iron out problems. Anything that new with that size rollout is sure to be showing problems. That doesn't mean that it shouldn't be used, or that it won't become useful.

I doubt my $10 kmart prepaid bought 4 years ago would download it and even if it could I usually leave the phone at home when I leave the house so it wouldnt be very useful

IMHO, I prefer prevention so may prefer to take say a table instead of a vaccine.
Some people may have adverse reactions to vaccines say like people to penicillin... and who knows what will be there?
All people are different even some require different strengths or doses for flue itself.

The app will become far more important moving forwards as we start to reopen the country - more mobility means more chances of community transmission, so contact tracing will be extremely important moving forward.

Despite the fact that we're not seeing growth in new cases in Australia (which is good), as restrictions start being eased, we are collectively at greater risk of exposure (and growth in infection numbers) moving forwards as we start mixing with other people again.
