World market mechanisms are different but a major external issue could be a unknown factor.

There are some "calamity events" which are a theory that pose a higher risk. Just as before 1996 people only referred to Tsunami's in folklore and "long ago" we know know a major tsunami can destroy huge areas. There is a lot of long term random events that may not quite be so random. They may be probable on a time scale mankind doesnt recall. So its raises the question :
    - Meteor impact
    - Massive volcanic eruption
    - Massive earthquake and tsunami (California ?, Tokyo etc )
    - Power grids (solar flare etc)
    - Pandemic
    - A major terrorist incident eg nuclear or uprising on a world war 3 scale
    - A biohazard...I like to think zombies but the party poopers say its a TV thing.
    - Planetary event. eg a comet or black hole type event

What is the need for everyone to use the word perspective this year?

What is the size of the working population in USA.

Will the market ever fall 97% again? Possible. Anything is possible. However, with all the stimulus and protection these days, if that happens, it has a good chance of continuing on to a complete implosion of the financial system. In that case, we'd all be in deep trouble.

As @SatayKing Prawn said, a buying opportunity, but on the way back up......that's a knife you don't want to catch.

What if there's a new virus that doesn't actually kill people but turns them into bogans. That will be a brave new world. Imagine Trump with a full mullet lol.

Governments the world over keep kicking the can further down the road (more bailouts, $ printing, spiraling debts). Sooner or later the great depression will be upon us.

I believe that number was pre-COVID.

With COVID adding 40M+ to the unemployment queue, the working population is now around 110M (and falling by the day).

My wife is a Clinical Nurse Consultant with the NSW Health Counter Disaster Unit - she has done a lot of work on pandemic planning in recent years. All along I kept asked her about their zombie apocalypse plan and whether they had considered various responses - but she always insisted that there isn't a plan for that.

One day I'm going to be out on the streets wearing a sandwich board saying "we tried to warn you" before I get my brains eaten by a flash mob of the living dead.

Just remember folks: it all starts with the toilet paper. Be prepared.

Love you to bits @SatayKing but first have to acknowledge you aren’t usually known to respond with anything other than the 14lb sledgie
This conversely is pure brilliance with the touch of a feather
