Because much of what is posted on share forums is rubbish.

This is the mindset. Thornhill 101. You say you are not a share investor. Yet you spoke about share "trading" a couple of posts up. To Thornhill, trading (buying and selling etc in order to make a profit on changes in share price) = speculating. And he frowns upon that. The share investing we tend to talk about on PC is for the long term. I.e. buy now, pretty much hold forever and collect dividends. We don't trade. And this is more aligned to a property investor mentality.

Yes, you can trade shares, but most property investors won't do that. It requires a lot of time, knowledge and its speculative. Thornhill's way is easy, basically set and forget. And buy occasionally.

Read the LIC and Thornhill threads and you will find the answers to your questionsand as you have shown a interest in equities these threads would be a good place to start your education.

Most shares forums are full of testosterone driven males comparing the size of their ... trades.

You have to work really really hard to find the people with actual knowledge amongst all the egos.

I think that is also the case here? :p

(juuuust kidding!!...no-one listens to me either. :p)

I first came on to SS because of an interest in property, to learn and to share experiences etc; then it morphed into this place (thanks Simon!).... but eventually I found it was a lot more like what Leo said in the OP...lots more varied discussions about a wide range of topics that you don't always get to discuss in depth in the normal real life social world.

A lot of "subliminal bragging" and "telephone numbers"?

I started with SS (now PC) for the property knowledge - but now I stay for the community spirit.

Where else can you find such a diverse bunch of knowledgeable nutcases, who won't judge and don't take offence, can advise on any topic you wish to raise, are supportive without envy, with a zillion combined years of experience - and don't care if you're earning $200/yr and living in a hut in Bali - or on $200,000/yr and about to buy your own island.

Property is so over rated, over taxed, over priced, OTT.

That's why we congregate here to have a whinge/bend an ear.

My mum said I would try to find the shortcut with everything. I like money. Tapping into the brainpower of people who know how to make money must be a shortcut!

Anyway, I like innovative, lateral thinking. Finding a way when there isn't one immediately present. Having a problem to solve and figuring out the hows and whys and using it all to my benefit to get to a solution.

Love all this stuff. Makes me tick... anyway, I love to learn.
Lots of smart people here, with a common goal. :D
