Why bother posting and hang around PC ??

I was recently asked why I bother to spend the time to post and frequent the forum as much as I do. I was thinking about it for a while and I concluded that PC is not simply
‘just’ a property forum to read about property. It’s really so much more.

Yes, there are absolute gems of advice from many experienced posters being shared all the time, as well as very up to date information on a host of topics related to investment. And yes, you can ask a question on something and have answers within minutes. But I realised that the main reason I personally come back each day is simple.

Property Chat is a real community.

If you invest your time, knowledge and experiences with them, more often than not others will share the same with you. If you’re feeling a little low in mood and need some cheering up, you can jump on to the PC community and instantly converse with friends, colleagues and like-minded peers which often can lift your mood. I have made some long term friends on here and enjoy the comradery of many other posters. I don’t really socialise much on a daily or weekly basis in the ‘real world’, and its so easy to just jump on PC and mingle with the mostly friendly and diverse community. That is equally as real as socialising in the flesh to me.

I think that is what keeps me coming back for more. It’s not so much the ‘property investment’ side of things (although this place is second to none imo), its more the tangible feel of ‘community’ this place embodies with the pretty cool folks that hang around, day in, day out. Grateful to be part of this community.

    What keeps you coming back?

I come to learn and seek help when I need it. I have learned a lot and I have also been helped a lot.

In return, I pass on what I have learned when I can. I also help others where I can.

This learning, sharing and returning help forms a community. It's good to be part of a community of like minded people.

I joined to learn a thing or two, I learned a lot more than I expected and made some great mates along the way, I keep coming back because I like you all :p. I kind of also feel like I am heard on here, no one puts you down if you have gotten things wrong and everyone is just so happy to help :).

I find PC offers more of an on-the-grounds view to supplement broad news pieces and opinion blogs.

Also sometimes I'll come across posts which seem relevant or remind me of a painful issue I need to start tackling.

Easily check PC's New Posts section more often then I check Facebook at the moment, so something's magical in the water here.

    What they said.

Where else can you get a room of faceless consultants on call 24/7 and not charge you an arm and a leg?

I needed to buy my family a home.

Went to a few open homes and realised that I had NFI.

Turned to the news and interwebs and realised there was so much vested interest and noise that it was very hard to work out which way was up.

Then I found PC and all youze guyz. I soaked up knowledge like a sponge and scored a great place and broker. While I was here, my eyes were opened to what is possible.....I'm already planning and scheming to get the next place... :)

I come back because the discussion is great, I feel welcomed and genuinely learn some life-changing skills.

great post @Leo2413, I used to spent 2-3 hrs a day reading on SS/PC, and checking, browsing numerous times a day. Learnt heaps here, got inspired and encouraged, and took action. It is a great community.

    haha same :)

In all seriousness, its very difficult to talk to friends and family about property - especially those that don't have. The tall poppy syndrome is well and truly alive in Australia :)

I joined PC to continue my property investment education after a "sabbatical" of many years from SS.

When I joined SS, I joined to learn as I had so much to learn; I really didn't think I could contribute that much.

When I joined PC, I still wanted/needed to learn but I felt I could also contribute a lot more than before.

I believe I am achieving both those objectives and will continue to do so.

About 6 months ago, some totally unexpected **** occurred in my life. My family is still working its way through it. The support I received from the PC community has helped us get to where are today and we are over the worse of it.

Those who have helped know who they are. Most I have never met but my family appreciates all of their input. This is a totally unexpected reason why I come back.

O there you are Bran, you hunky avatar. Put some clothes on.

    Seriously,

I've got no one to hang with irl either. I came to learn, I got screwed, so I might as well guide others from making the same mistakes. xxx

    Why I hang around.

SS people information and knowledge helped me to do some research on my PPOR and went in full confident to buy in 2007, one of the best decision ever given that I was new to country.

PC you guys are great I owe you all for my first investment in geelong in 2015.

Its a great place to learn from others 'mistakes' and try to avoid them yourself. I know I have avoided a doozy or two by getting the heads up from some posters in the past.
