I'm donating monthly to one charity, but generally prefer to make a lump sum donation to a charity I like (The Smith Family is one) rather than commit to a monthly debit.

Yep - monthly - two overseas kids via one of the better agencies, and one local - plus a fresh water program overseas

Also the RSL art union monthly - but that's more hopeful of winning the $10mil apartment complex :D

My regulars include the performing arts (donated my last 2 seasons as they were unable to perform), YOTS troubled/homeless kids, Salvo's, Legacy & several others.

We set aside donation money for every year. We usually like to donate in lump sum - 10k/year.
This year 35k as most go to covid help in poor countries

Should have added my own, the Salvos, good clothes to the op shop which caters to battered wives etc, the Hospital Ship when the yearly documentary is on, and lump sum to any event such as the fires we had a couple of years ago.

Donations are great but many organisations actually require volunteers, time is much more precious. Unfortunately, too many people can simply offer cash but don't have the time or inclination to get in and get their hands dirty.

Master No Mates volunteers 4hrs/wk at a disabled swim school. He enjoys it & may end up doing the Austswim instructor's course as well.

I've been donating regularly since the age of 12. Parents ingrained it in us. As my means grew, my donations have too. Also donate to some countries overseas as well as small interest free loans for people in my cultural community.

Someone from here (SS times) introduced Kiva. Micro financing. You don't always get the money back. So, I top it up on our birthdays.
Otherwise, donate to my friends charity activities like running, shaving etc. I don't know if my money will be used wisely but at least made my friend proud and happy.

    Likewise @devank , I am a Kiva person.
I love the compounding effect of the money being re-loaned and added to it when I can.
Typically I choose to loan to women/groups.

Always buy my sunglasses and sunscreen fom the Cancer Council, this helps to support their work, and when they ask about rounding up my sale as a donation I usually add 20% of the purchase ;)

Instead of buying LOTTO tickets I buy tickets from MS (it'd be nice to win, but am just happy to support)

Actual monetary donotions, I often make when I have a good month/profitable job, always to the Salvation Army, they are the better charity organizations, as the majority donated (86% odd) actually goes to those in need (not toward further fundraising or chewed up in management........like some so called charities  ) If you donate to a specific Salvos disaster fundraiser they claim 100% goes to those in need.
Do your own due diligence ;)
