I only know of Commsec when it comes to buying shares.. Need to get funds that follow an index.. VAS, VGS..

Should I just buy through Commsec or is there some other recommended platform I should look into?

    I use ComSec

It is fine for me - there are probably better and probably worse.

There are cheaper ones in terms of brokerage. I use Commsec for convenience although I have contemplated changing to reduce cost and put pressure on big banks like CBA who rort their customers.

A bank that large should be able to charge the lowest fees.

I also use Commsec - although I should have thought this through a little more before using it. Now I would look at Nabbank (I think it's called) or - there was something else from another thread that had really low costs. Anyway - I have no idea how to change and can't be bothered looking into changing at the moment.

Thanks to this forum opening my eyes to cheaper brokerage, I have now had my current brokers do a price match!

I was using Commsec but I switched to NAB Trade as they have an easy , (& relatively cheap), access/brokerage to world wide markets. Not that I've bought anything on another exchange yet, but it looks as simple as buying on the ASX from what I can see on the trading account when I login.

EDDITED to add - other platforms may also do that now? At the time though, going back a few years, Commsec didn't offer it (not easily or cheaply anyway).

Wow! Is your current broker a larger, online broker? How did you negotiate that!?

I have both Comsec and ANZ (old E-Trade), thought don't like the way either show your returns

    Sharesight makes that aspect simple

Currently using Commsec, however I've recently stumbled across Self Wealth. Have been thinking of changing for many years but haven't taken the leap yet. There are some interesting articles about it's inception around 2016.

Has anyone had any experience using it?

It's not hard. NAB can enable the process for you. I stayed with Commsec only for convenience.

Speaking of which, I've been meaning to ask everyone.. Can I have multiple trading accounts which contain the same shares?

Like can I have a NAB-Trade account with some CBA shares in it and also a Commsec account with CBA shares in it as well?

What about the CHESS and the HIN Numbers dont they conflict?

What do you all think of Bell Direct?

Is that for the consumer level investors level like what Commsec is?

Apparently some people don't like Commsec because it doesn't do reporting.

For a simple passive portfolio do I even need reporting considering I probably won't be doing too much buying and selling?

The search function of this forum is great. There are posts in other threads about Bell Direct.

I think you are over thinking this.
Commsec is more than good enough for all your needs with a buy and hold approach.

Advisor is telling me 'It doesn't do reporting' and that its clunky.. What reporting does it need to do??
