"hash" investor asking about the name of a plant.....not the picture I was expecting when I opened the link
That doesn't look too well but I think it's an Alternanthera which does need pruning to keep it happy and if it's in Canberra with frost it might explain it's unhappiness Little Ruby Alternanthera Hedge
I would love to know what these plants are. The purple flower shrub might be a young tree (first two photos). But the flowers on the bush sized plants were smaller than on the trees. Both were in Hobart or Launceston and I'd love to know what they are, and if they might grow in Brisbane?
Thanks @Propertunity. I just googled and Magnolia it is. Thanks so much. They were all over Tasmania and just lovely. Any idea on the third photo?
Have you got a better close up photo of it? Its a bit out of focus (or i'm wearing the wrong glasses again)
The photo looks clear to me, but the actual pink flowers do look fuzzy. I think it is the flowers and not your eyes. I don't know if they start as something different but to me, they look like someone has draped pink strands of cotton over the branches, and I think that is why they look fuzzy. I do only have this one photo. I've tried google but can't find anything so far.
I've googled a few different phrases trying to explain to Mr Google just what I'm after, but I keep getting distracted by the AMAZING things that pop up... eg. Man just cannot do better than Mother Nature.
There is an app called PlantSnap which might help. It identified the second photo, which had clear flowers in the photo, as either Chinese magnolia (Magnolia soulangeana) or one of two other types of magnolia. The other photos don't have clear enough pictures. There are other plant identification apps, this one gets mentioned quite frequently.
I found a picture of a tree with flowers which looked almost identical to number 3 which said it was some kind of maple Acer negundo but when I googled that there were no pictures that looked the same. Now I can’t find the original picture. Tamarisk trees have lovely pink hanging flowers but they don’t grow that big I think.

Thanks to those who've helped me identify these species. I'm going to look at getting some. I've found some Magnolia soulangeana and now I can look for the acer negundo. They were stunning.
