I want to get a cheap van. Was looking at Ford Transit, Hyundai iLoad and Toyota Hiace but decided to go Hiace because of a few reasons. I've narrowed it down to these two:

    1) $9,800
    2000 model
    173,000km
    1 month rego
    duel fuel (petrol/LPG)

    2) $7,900
    2002 model
    253,000km
    9 months rego
    petrol

Which one would you go for, van 1 or 2?

Ah shoot, I mixed them up.. have corrected it now. Rego costs $800 p.a. so if van 2 has $600 worth of rego then van 1 should be priced at $9,200 (all things equal and if I pay asking price). So to compare both with the same rego in dollar terms it looks like this:

    1) $9,200
    2000 model
    173,000km
    1 month rego
    duel fuel (petrol/LPG)

    2) $7,900
    2002 model
    253,000km
    9 months rego
    petrol

I would go 1. A lot less kms. Negotiate the price to reduce the rego renewal. And duel fuel is handy

For me it depends on condition.
I never buy a car based on what you see on paper.

I've bought cars with 220,000km on the clock, and they're still going strong today on a whole bunch more then that. It's part gut feeling and part driving the car like you stole it on the test drive.

Yes I'm leaning that way too.. the $1,300 extra for lower mileage and dual fuel on van 1 sounds like a better deal.

Looking at the pics, van 1 has a couple minor dings on the rear blind panels but a test drive will tell a lot more. Van 2 has glass all around but van 1 has blind sides with the only glass in the sliding door.

What are you going to be using it for ?
How many klm per week ?
What do you currently drive ?

    My initial vote was 1
But after your last post, I'd go 2 for visability of glass all round, particularly if you are not used to a van.

LPG is handy, but if you aren't doing heaps of klm every week then it wouldnt affect the decision.
