OK , so I've registered my domain name and web site host .

Seems I need to choose a CMS system .

I did go with Ventral and in their set up guide they mention CMS platforms , WordPress, Joomla and Drupal as the most popular .

I'm wanting something that is easy to set up and update . Not going to have much on there. Main purpose is to have a calendar let my established clientele know what hours I'm on each week ( it varies ) , when I"m on holidays etc so they don't have to ring up or turn up and find I'm not there .

I will be putting articles of interest and might want to load up pdf's which people can print out , possible to complete on line and print out ( but not to submit ) .

Not planing an interactive site and no sales , well nothing that springs to mind , but you never know what happens further down the line
    .
    Any recommendations .

    Cliff

Is it for your practice? The anticipated use will determine which suits best.

WordPress is quite simple and lends itself well to putting articles up. You can also add "apps" to it (think similar to your phone), there's ones out there that could do calendar functions similar to what you describe I think.

    Ok

    Word Press :)

Is there a Dummies guide on how to do it ?

I had a look at the web host and they had links to a series of templates ( I assume they're starting points which you can modify ) . Is that the way to go , or should I look at seperate providers ?

Start with a template and play.

WordPress is the world standard for pretty much exactly what you've described.

It's the standard for a reason.

Any bookshop will have some books to get you started. Grab one and spend an afternoon going through it with the computer in front of you.

The ROI you'll get down the track will more than make up for the afternoon or two that you lose now.

    Good luck!

    Bookshop?

Try Kindle. There's some very low cost resources with good ratings.

Wordpress. There's almost nothing you can't build there (plus plug-ins)

For your needs, WordPress is the way to go.

Lots of tutorials out there, and you can use off-the-shelf themes to get you started quickly.

I prefer Genesis based themes from Studio Press - Premium WordPress Themes - StudioPress

Alternatively, have a look at Divi based themes from Elegant Themes - Divi WordPress Theme | Elegant Themes

How did you go with this ?
Will you be updating the website's calendar yourself or would an admin do this for you ? How different would the website's calendar (practice) be to your calendar (personal) ? If you are using outlook or gmail's calendar, would you want both of these calendars synched ?

I went with Wordpress and a premium platform within . Had a couple of hicoughs but all sorted out care of chat room and service provider .

Practice doesn't have a calander and has a lousy internet profile ( at times have seen it's rating as low as 1.1 ....) Most of that is due to management / reception issues and 80-90 % is easily addressable , but they don't listen . I've got the calendar up and running and can update that myself . I've a friend who is going to give me some pointers on how to be at or close to the top of the google search if someone googles Dr or medical Center in my suburb . He had a quick look at some stats and said it's do-able . Waiting post Christmas .
