Why would you clad over this house?

I would consider a textured coating. Its already rendered and looks very plain. Sills gutters etc could use a complementing colour

We have decided to permanently convert this into our ppor. Incorporating all the useful suggestions from the other thread , plus thinking that cladding might enhance insulation and street appeal. Attached is the cladding design we like, but my family can't decide on the colour. I chose sandalwood. Wife chose Ash. Son #1 chose bone white. Son #2 chose satin grey.

Is the cladding actually insulated (i.e. does it have an R-value?).

Or is the insulation created because the cladding creates an air gap against the existing external wall?

gee. I knew nothing about R-value. Was told by salesperson that this vinyl cladding is easy maintenance, safe, insulated ... and my family likes the look. Gotta ask my wife to find out more. She's been looking into turning the duckling into swan. I let her explore, but set the condition that victorian/heritage style front porch is out of bounds :p

Melbourne gets cold and insulation is a good thing.

    What brand is the cladding?

This may sound harsh, but I think you are trying to turn that house into something it just really is not.

For me, adding cladding would turn it into an ugly duckling. If you want a timber house with a victorian style porch, why not keep this as a rental and buy something that doesn't need to be tortured to make it into what you want?

I also think adding cladding will devalue it (without knowing anything about the area, or what the cladding may add in regards to insulation).

My parents, many years ago, put faux brick cladding on their weatherboard house. When they sold it, the first thing the new owners did was to restore it to weatherboard. It would have been a big job - a lot of damage had been done to the weatherboard.

    Is the vinyl fire rated?

This report is perhaps biased because it comes from a brick company, but worth reading.

I think bone white goes best with your current roof colour. The other colours might clash with it

The use of ‘siding’ in the title suggests it’s an American article...

Here are a couple of screen shots from the website about fire-related properties of the insulplank cladding:

Hi Wylie, I know you mean well so it's alright being harsh on me :)
I'm not trying to turn that house into something it is not. I'm only trying to turn it into something my family likes. My parents like this cladding design too and they would make my place their 2nd home.
This house was bought because it's close to my parents', only 2 minutes' drive away. All along it's meant to be my ppor when we return. Won't be renting it out again. It had taken me lots of pain to evict the nightmare tenant so I won't subject myself to the mercy of the unfair covid rulings.
