    Have you considered Tangalooma or Stradbroke Island? Not as far north as NQ, but beautifully warm in Winter and easy to transfer from Brisbane airport. Not likely to be crowded, plus wildlife galore. Plus whales and dolphins. No crocs.

    Must be a bloody big block of land you have if the backyard beach is 48 hours away.

    Stayed here a few years ago:
    Rose Bay Resort | Nestled on a secluded beach away from the rest of Bowen

    It was awesome. I grew up in bowen but hadn't been back in 20 years. Beaches were even better than i remembered. Rose bay is beautiful, there is coral on the rocks to the left within 10m of shore.

    Don't know if the hotel is as good as it was then but it was perfect - right on the bay.
