With that big investment, you won't want to move to Melbourne.

Although sometimes it's not just about the money.

I'm finding Perth too cold. Noosa or Brisbane and surrounds but it depends what my kids are doing also. I wouldn't move again until my son finishes school in 2.5 - 4.5 yrs.

Eventual goal is to bounce back and forwards between Byron Bay and Barcelona (I have properties in both places). At the moment stuck in the Spanish tax system, long term plan to be Oz resident again but spend as much time as possible in Spain without being caught by residency rules.

Tax planning is a big issue in where you plan to settle, there is no financial secrecy anymore, automatic exchange and matching of information is being implemented now and former havens are either joining (eg Switzerland) or being ostracized (eg Caribbean), the game is up. Something to consider for those thinking of Europe (most countries tax much higher than Australia, plus no negative gearing, share franking credits useless).

I couldn't live full time in Bali but could certainly handle 4 month stints.
Also like Hua Hin- 3 hour drive from Bangkok. You can have best of both worlds.
I couldn't stay away from my kids long enough to live o/s full time I'd miss them too much:)

Plus many of us would get caught by Schengen rules in Europe.

Somewhere in the middle would be good, South of Rocky, hopefully no crocs or stingers, where you can actually enjoy the beach.

Yeah we too. I think realistically, we'd probably stay in Sydney and escape for 1-2 month holidays throughout the year whenever we can, particularly during winter. Part of me also thinks that we covet living somewhere (else) because of the daily grind.

If/when we're financially free, the feeling of having to 'escape' would diminish because there's nothing left to escape from essentially. It's not like we live in Kabul.

Depends what suburb you live in I suppose.
It's ironic that living in Sydney requires this daily grind to pay off your house so you can enjoy life one day...
Could sell up and live somewhere delightful at the coast! ;)

Still too cold. Without the constraints of family I'd live with one foot on each side of the equator.

True but well, what can I say, there's a reason Sydney prices are what they are.

Already retired, so far staying put in our PPOR of 37+ years.

Along with ALL our retired friends, we have discovered that family and friends are the most important factor in our lives.

Two of our adult children have moved, one interstate and the other a 5 hour drive in the opposite direction. We enjoy travelling to see them several times a year, and one is often back here for business.
