    Hi all,

I’m sorry I’m new to this and managed to save to buy a little investment for my retirement
I have been widowed young and done it tough raising 2 baby boys into fine young men
So finally have little savings and Victoria is way too expensive, however Queensland has beautiful weather
I would like to purchase a property upto $310 or $320K max
Some suggestions I have read has been Calamvale, Marsden, Browns Plains, Kuraby etc
But most these places have huge body corp and council fees

Is there anywhere else - anyone would know that is a nice, safe suburb that would give me a reasonable return for the amount of money I have managed to save ?

I’m not familiar with Queensland as I reside in Victoria but hoping to make it a place I too can come and retire in the future

Kindest regards and hopeful in some honest feedback

    I much appreciate this much

    Mary

Do you currently own the place that you live in? And how far away is retirement do you think? The reason I ask is because sometimes the best thing in retirement is to own your own place because of favourable tax and social security treatment of a principal place of residence rather than an investment property.

I don’t own a place. I have been living with my mum and dad the duration I lost my hubby. I managed to save a little deposit and buy (with a loan) a property here. It has nearly doubled so … I am going to sell it as I can’t afford the repayments due to health reasons (I am not working as of a few months) and want to pay off my loan and will have enough to buy outright. Then the rental can be my little income for the time being until I get better…. Who knows when that maybe ? Hence it’s a strategy in place

Algester has some cute older units with 3 or 4 units on a block with decent sized yards. Forget the newer larger complexes with pools.

Calamvale it’s really nice & you might get lucky and get a street frontage outside the complex

They don’t come up all the time and I took a quick look also and none currently advertised apart from a whole block of units. I don’t know Acacia Ridge enough but I’m thinking ‘no’. Coppers Plains had some newer affordable housing built in the past ten years which I would definitely consider.

    Here!
Townhouses with street frontages are so nice. Some of them look like regular houses.

Thank you so much I have to wait a few months until I sell the one here in order to do so - that’s why I placed this post hoping to get suggestions - I really can’t afford more than $320K

I especially like the ones outside a complex - but they get snapped up quickly - I just could not afford the body corps and all the fees in the complexes - though they are really nice
