    Theres potential to not get any phone or internet service there despite being about 10km from the CBD

    Mitsubishi motors shut down 2004 I think with around 600 jobs lost. Devistating to some of those people but not a huge ripple effect on the wider economy.
    I don't think Holdens will have a huge impact either.

    If you invest in stock with owner occupier appeal then fluctuations in the market will not have a huge impact on your investment.

    An IP there (2br courtyard home) bought in 2011 for 325k, was recently independantly valued for 380k, with no renovations or work done to it

    as for phone and internet, that's no longer true thanks to a great SA company called Nuskope, who service alot of Athelstone now. You can get 30mb reliable internet for the same price as you'd pay for ADSL2.
