If you have a lot of time, go amalfi but To get to capri from Rome - train 2hours to salerno from termini station, then wait 30-40 minutes for ferry, then ferry (depending on sea could get cancelled) to capri (could stop at amalfi or positano) so total possibly 1-2 hours then you gotto go on foot . most people stay in positano. i don't doubt amalfi coast has great views etc but it's a tough terrain to get around compared to santorini.

We lived in the Park View Residences which is close to KLCC. The K residence is a bit more upmarket with the subway in the lower ground (LCT). It also has a fitness first on level 3. KL is busy, cheap and warm - but hey, it is no Sydney and no beaches like Coogee.

@spider KL is def no sydney, i feel it is not getting cheaper. Best place to stay in KL is KL Sentral if you living in KL as a base. Otherwise you will get caught in traffic jams or rush hours everyday. It is so bad that multinational companies now supply bunks for employees to stay in the week. Got relatives who like in randwick, it is far more worthwhile to stay in bali for beaches relaxation.

We'd like to split the year between mountains and ocean. Probably either somewhere here or somewhere in NZ...or then again maybe somewhere in Europe.

Many names for this hike in Amalfi Coast. The photo posted above is an actual location shot.

Il Sentiero degli Dei - The Amalfi Coast

The other area I liked is Cinque terre in Liguria region.

South East Melbourne.. 60 to 90 minutes from the city on a reasonable size country property! Lots of room for horsies!

I plan to spend a lot of time holidaying and the home swapping idea is a great way to see the world!

    Rehashing an old thread sorry.

What's Sapporo like in winter and how does it compare to Tokyo? May be going there end of this yr - not sure whether to do the tried and trusted ie Tokyo/Hakuba etc or fly up to Sapporo and ski in Niseko. Just concerned about the difficulty in added distance/time to get there plus.

Sapporo was in the news last yr with snowstorms causing chaos - people sleeping in airports etc. Something I want to avoid but....we've done Tokyo twice (and done it quite extensively) in the last 3 years and thinking about something a little diff. We could ex out of Osaka first as well, then Sapporo but am guessing Osaka is a poor man's Tokyo.

Or we could just ditch Japan and head for Canada/Whistler for example. But part of me also thinks that's equally crazy when most Canadians are trying to get out (to avoid the freeze), and we're paying to get tortured.

First world problems of course

If you go to Canada, there's not much of a freeze in Vancouver.. (access to Whistler).
Personally I'd skip Whistler. I've never been and probably won't go, I don't see the point of waiting in lift lines when you could be skiing.. Lots of uncrowded options in the interior, Fernie (trees and powder and access to Cat Skiing), Red Mountain (steepest in-bounds terrain in BC), Revelstoke 1700m vertical!!! (also lots of dry powder and access to heliskiing), or the more family-oriented resorts of Big White, Silver Star and Sun Peaks. Most temps in BC ski resorts average around -5°C to -10°C during the day, they do get the occasional big freeze though (so do lots of places).

I'd live there if Trudeau would let me in.. I'm too old apparently.

Thanks. We're not great skiers by any stretch so heli-skiing and going deep in terrain/trees etc is a no no lol.
