Just wait till she's at school and they will be there for Saturday school matches!:)
It reminds me when I go with mum regularly to a nice restaurant for lunch on our street and around 90% are females. So once I asked the spouse what happened to all the 'males'? His reply was they are either all dead (older demographic there) or working to pay for our nice lunches....!;)

    Where are the dads?

At work.... so mum can bring the kids up, not the child care teacher...

My wife worked in child care for over 10 years and swore she would never do what some parents did and drop their kids off at 7am and picked them up at 6pm.... from the age of 2 months old!

Saying that, i have taken the day off so i can go to the aquarium with my 2 little girls, which is exciting.

I walk around Lake Macquarie and see Dads taking their little ones for a walk, which my husband would never have done  the only thing is, stuck in their ears are their listening devices, too bad if their little one wants to talk to them or needs attention ... :(

Nah it's our faith day. Like for Christians I think it's Sunday. For us, Saturday is a family day/faith day. It's been like that for thousands of years.

It will then make your life a lot easier if you enrol your child/ren in a school aligned with your faith.

Otherwise you will have to deal with most school based activities - sport, birthday parties etc - being scheduled on a Saturday.

I sort-of did the opposite. I enrolled junior in pre-school one day a week from when she was 2 ... building up to 4 days a week at 4 ... simply for the socialisation.

Her half sisters had all grown up and left home, my friends kids were all much older, there were no kids available in the street during the week (childcare) and most weekends (racing around a zillion organised activities) ... so, asides from her cousins overseas or the odd kid on the weekend, her only play mate really was me.

Wow this thread makes me a bit concerned! The husband plans to be a stay-at-home parent next year onwards, and I'd hoped there would be more dads he could socialize with. I've seen a few full-time dads around, but we might be moving so the demographic might change :/

There are definitely a lot of dads at the toddler activity classes here, but so few dads at birthday parties :(

I think if you are stuck with them almost 24/7, this will happen. Some of my friends told me their early story of missing being able to talk to other adultso_O

    Do tell do tell

I was at the gym yesterday - there was one SAHD, nodded to him as he pushed his pram up the road & I rode off. I'll have a chat to him next week (he prolly dropped his kid at the gym's creche).

Had 5 months of being a Play At Home Dad, best time ever! Very easy and very enjoyable but was definitely surprised and disappointed by the lack of other dads at playgrounds etc. When I did see another dad, their eyes would light up! They were usually on leave or talking care of the kidlets because the mother was sick. Unfortunately none were full time carers or lucky enough to afford not to be working.

Massive pet peeve of mine. Most parents are so disengaged from their “quality” time with the kids that I wonder what the long term effects will be for the next generation. Stark contrast to a playground in Norway I was at not so long ago, not a single parent was on their, they were actually all playing with their kids. Shocking!

Cartoonist Michael Leunig got caught up in a social media teacup storm recently for depicting something about InstaMums that isn’t all to far away from the truth from what I see way too frequently :(

I guess it's better than the dads talking on phones to their girlfriends.

Do you think it's more a cultural thing in Oz? I still can't figure it out. I know many are at work...but there still should be some out and about. I rarely see dads.

There's some hope, I rarely see a few people if any doing the bay run (Drummoyne) looking at a screen, even if they're not pushing a pram.
