I was cooking Moroccan lamb in my new ceramic tagine (first time use), after 5 minutes, there was a loud cracking sound and the tagine snapped in half. The big piece remained on the stove top but the small piece fell onto the wooden floor.

Let’s just say I was extremely lucky that it didn’t land on my feet, it was hot, heavy with sharp edges and it could easily break my bone or leave some permanent burn damage on me. Instead, the thing left a burn mark on my wooden floor.

I called the retail company and send them the photos, they said they will investigate this matter with the supplier. I asked them whether they will recall the product, they said they will investigate it first.

As I’m waiting for a response from the retail company, what else should I do? I have home and content insurance, should I give my insurer a call? Should I also obtain a quote to fix the floor?

To be honest, I wouldn't be too bothered by it. Maybe a photo take from less close to the damage will put it into better perspective.

Good point! The mark is about 20cms. If it is a rental property I'm sure the landlord would expect me to pay for the repair so I want to get compensated for this.

In the kitchen of a rental property, it would probably be seen as 'fair wear and tear'.

It was awesome. I managed to salvage most of it and cooked with chickpea and tomato paste, yum!

Good to hear that you weren't injured.

Did you season the tagine correctly before first use? And use a heat diffuser? Otherwise, cracking is not unexpected.

Thanks for the info. There is no instruction whatsoever, the packaging says gas and oven safe, it doesn't even mention the max temperature.
