it was only 2 weeks, so budget is not a consideration actually...

the 9-5 jobs is planned out for me...i know when to wake up, when to go to work, just like a zombie whether i like it or not, but its planned out for me.

it's really a Shawshank Redemption for some and needs a mindset on it's own

Just watch out for the ladies. Keep your mop handy to fend them off.

That's called - Being in the Rat Race.
You can plan schedules and activities 9-5 as well, which does not have to include working.
Educational classes, sporting and physical activities, entertainment, etc.
There's a lot of stuff you can enroll in groups, or solo if you feel the need to have a structured schedule.

As I've said before, nothing special.

I was working pt and started a few small businesses in uni, saved up some money before graduating. I got pretty good marks at uni so also got into a good paying industry straight out (the $150k+ types in first year). At some point I also did pt after work to save more money.

Ended up more or less buying a property on average every year after graduating since 21. Towards later years had built a network of uni friends in similar positions so was able to move together into bigger things whether it's properties, other asset classes or businesses. Snowball effect. I'm just a small potato. I've got some uni mates that would easily break into young BRW if known.

A very very nasty field (hours wise) called investment banking. Altho after a short while I leveraged into jobs with similar/higher pay but less hours, hence enabling me to do other businesses/pt. Long story

    What changed?

To get a sense of what retirement would look like I took a 8 month sabbatical about a year and a half ago and felt towards the end of it I was starting to lose my mojo.

Been back to work for almost a year now and with a renewed sense of "F*** You power" I've been promoted twice. Also I'm in the midst of converting to part-time to free up some mental energy to allow me to develop a business on the side.

I don't think I'll ever retire. However, I do plan to exit the rat-race within the next 6 months to focus on my business.

All of these posts are about "intentional retirement". I love my 9-5 but want more. And so reducing hours...taking mini-retirements and trying new things....are what I am trying. Just went back to drawing classes and an exercise class. Want reduced hours to see if I do just sit on a lounge...or if I can enjoy a change. But my paid work has always been a changing environment....very stimulating...and very satisfying. Part of being able to step down is making sure the succession plan is working. And I have loved the property journey. I love reading this forum. I hope that I can continue progressing this.

Hubby....mmm. We travel really well together.... but not sure about long term at one home. Guess I'll need to be creative about travel!

I'm a school teacher and 41 years old.
I just want the freedom to leave this time consuming job we call the 'rat race'.
We have equity, but we have the same problem of low yields in the burbs, but my retirement plan is by the end of next year.
Then it's back to small developments once every 2 years, as per usual.
Unless I break into the BIG TIME with some business partners.

    Never!

I see so many inspiring people working and growing and creating into their 80s, why would you want to just stop?

It's a beautiful thing when you can continue making money from property and have choices.

I never considered this an option when I started and when you no longer need the banks it's liberating

MTR would I be crossing the line if I asked you how much (of your own) play money you have/need to do what you're doing? Is it like over a mill?
