Hey all, just purely out of curiosity what's your total investment portfolio worth? That is equity + good debt - bad debt. Total means including shares, properties, cash, collectables etc...

Bear in mind that there's a lot experienced investors and business owners here so I will not be surprised that the results would be shockingly high compare to the average population.
It will be a motivation for those who have just started out the journey.

Please also comment on how long have you been invested, your LVR and the type of investments if you wish to share.

Asking people about their specific financial details is generally considered to be fairly rude. Even if people don't comment, the poll is publicly visible.

I would answer but I have no idea. I also can't be bothered working it out. I have a reno to worry about and also finalising plans for a build. Check back at the end of the year, I might have some idea then ;)

    +1 for Peter.
Would you sue someone with less than 500k, or would you rather attempt to sue someone with more than 500k?

Anybody can see the poll answers, not just active forum participants. Make it an anonymous question and you'd get a larger poll response.

Isn't this a 'how big is your ****' question?

I wouldn't believe the claims anyway.

    No offence caused at all.

My comment was meant to be light hearted ...I tried to add a 'smiley face' emoji but not working on my iPad today for some reason...

Thanks for the clarification @Joynz :) There's no indication on who has voted and who voted for what right? So I think its quite Anonymous by the look of it. Looks like we have good spread of votes across the poll so hopefully no one would feel intimidated in anyway...

    I don't understand the question.
"equity + good debt - bad debt"
Do I include PPOR equity? Why do I add good debt? Is PPOR debt bad debt as it's not tax deductible?

that is some weird calculation, it should be net asset.

debt is debt whether it good or not, so you if you was to liquate or force to sell or whatever you have to pay back the debt good or bad.

say you got a portfolio worth 8m and you have 7m debt on it, you really only worth 1m
no one lends you money based on that portfolio calculation.

Media love to write this person has 5m properties articles or 10m or 2m or whatever and rarely reveal how much debt they got, they could have 90% leverage and they worth bugger all
and if there is a downturn or some unfortunate event happen they get wiped out :)

Ask some of those WA multimillionaire properties portfolios, a lot of those facing a wipe out

I think he's after some kind of gross asset value (or total asset under management) - which at least is different to the NAV most people ask for....

The way I see it is this: bad debt is when you are used it to for purchasing depreciating assets like cars,(except for collectable cars that increase in value) electronics, computers etc.. and make sure to include the good old credit card debt in that bucket as well. Good debt is when you invest it in anything that appreciate in value over time, so by this definition your PPOR loan would be a good debt.

Thanks @PandS, I see your point. Maybe I should have explain it better that this poll is purely trying to get an idea of how much people have grown their portfolio and not how rich they are as by their net assets.

Definition of good debt is standard.
Good question and you're getting a range of responses. A poll on net value would also be interesting.
I find it interesting because when I have the choice, I'd rather work smart than work hard. I buy cheap properties because I'm single. I'd rather buy a handful of cheap sound properties which pay themselves off and increase in value ( max!). Some people think that is asking for too much but I don't think so. I also expect to retire with an income over 100K without trying too hard. ;)
