Would be super disgustingly humid. Brisbane gets quite bad in the summer, one can't walk outside in the humidity.

Yep - that's something we sure need to consider. Will spend some time up in summer before making a decision.

    Cheers

Every place has a time of year when the weather isn't the best. Comes down to personal preference but I find humidity easier to deal with than long periods of cold.

Really? Depends what you are familiar with I suppose. Other than a few weeks in the peak of summer I find it mild.

    That's true.

Our Canberra summers aren't always nice either - the dry heat can be pretty harsh.

I remember one summer day last year - we were down the south coast with the kids staying in a cabin. It was 40+ degrees outside and the cabins aircon was busted. Best fun we had was driving around in the car, air-con blasting with ice-creams.

    Cheers

Move to Port Hedland for a year, then head to the Sunny Coast after that. You won't notice the humidity ;)

Spend your summer in Canberra, winter in the Sunshine Coast.

Apart from some rough days, it shouldn't be too bad.

Not if you are near the water. Most of the time you have a cooling breeze that is better that makes it way less humid than Brisbane.

I wear a suit all through the Brisbane Summer and would still take that over the cold any day.

    I'm leaning towards this.

Continue to base ourselves in Canberra - but take extended breaks up north throughout the year (especially in winter). I'm fortunate that my business provides the flexibility - so need to ensure I take full advantage of it!

    Cheers

I'm just researching options for relatively inexpensive winter lets on the q'land coast. Coolum seemed to have some good options when we were there without having to look too hard.

    True

I have noticed there has not been much of a winter in Brisbane over the last few years.

Queenslander here, but lived in Canberra for 5 years. I agree that Canberra summers are harsh and don't think they are any better than QLD. Qld has the humidity but that Canberra dry heat really burns. I usually prefer cold weather and spend most of my Brisbane winter still in shorts. I think Canberra forever changed my perspective on cold. In the end it was too much though so I moved back here.
I loved Canberra a lot...especially the food and personally think it beats Brisbane on food. The exception would be the seafood....I am glad to be back here for the seafood.
The other good thing about being up here is the multitude of places you can go in the south east...even visiting Byron Bay is not that far away. I did find Canberra more isolated for side trips compared to up here.
If you do come up, please bring me Turkish Pide, Goodberry's and Kingsleys Chicken Chips :D

Somewhere like Hervey Bay? Inexpensive, good beaches, good Climate, close to Fraser Island. There are plenty of grey nomads but not over run by tourists apart from during whale watching season and only a few hours drive from Brisbane etc.

Nice, were you there on holiday?
As a comparison the mean temperature range for Hervey Bay in July is 10c-21c and it's 6c-13c for Melbourne.

Way too short to have a good look around.
