British insurer Direct Line has commissioned research revealing a staggering 2.5 million Lego blocks have been flushed down the toilet by children aged under 10 years.

The insurer said this was enough to build a tower three times taller than the current world Lego tower record of 35.05 metres, which was built with an estimated 550,000 plastic blocks.

While it didn’t specify the period of time over which the 2.5 million blocks were flushed (in a year, or since Legos were invented?) it said there were many other items that could cause major problems with household plumbing if they disappeared round the U-bend.

Here is the list of items and the number of times they’ve been dropped down the loo:

Dolls, including Barbie and Bratz dolls - 4,295,244
    Pens and crayons – 4,231,516
House and car keys – 3,963,860
    Credit/debit/loyalty cards – 3, 568, 749
Jigsaw and board game pieces – 3,313,838
    Mobile phones – 3,007,945
    Lego blocks – 2,472,633

How do they know the children were under 10?

Most of the matter blocking your shower drain is human skin and hair. The kitchen sink is mostly various forms of fat.

They have separate stats for Lego blocks flushed down toilets by 11-20 year olds.

It'd be based on insurance claim information from whatever the plumber submitted through, I assume.

    Or employer ;);)
When i played with **** you'd find all sorts of stuff. The plant operators at one of the sydney treatment plants pulled out about $5k cash, which went to their Christmas party
Also found this long rubbery tool one time. No one could work out why you'd need a double ended tool

Our area has biocycle, so everything down any drain, loo etc ends up out the sprinkler. Service lady said she was checking a house system when the hubby came down to have a chat and see how it works. She was skimming top and told him he can't flush condoms as they can't go through the cycle, he said "I don't use them". She said property was on the market the next time she went. We reckon it was definitely a ' city boy'

Interesting topic. I have a query about this.
Who is responsible for the plumbers bill if upstair washroom sink was blocked after 4 months of tenancy?
    Landlord or tenant?

Ha ha, I beat that, tenant is a bit upset that I wont pay plumber after a sewer choke, among other things, he pulled out a glass beer stubby !

Some of the others I have not been informed properly of the reason, also only happens once when you say any other blockage and you will pay, I was only recently pondering making up a guide for WC usage, no sh*te.
