    Hi All

Been watching some behaviour on this site lately that is not so good.

Some enjoying humiliating and belittling forum members not so nice. Why ? because it makes people think they are better and bigger, not so, quite the opposite. They are insecure people.

Reminds me of the school bullies, those that want to gang up and pick on the chubby kids, the real heroes or cowards I should say, perhaps they miss the school playground.

This is a new forum and lets respect each other or find another forum.

    MTR:)

I'm unaware of who in particular you have in mind, but what I've seen which bothers me is the following, which most likely contributes to the bullying:
    - The copious amounts of people peddling a product, looking for business
    - People lying and fudging figures
    - Some of the ***********s going on
    - People lying about their investments, for no reason really.
    - Lies lies lies lies

Whilst i'm definitely not against the commercialization of the forum, to a degree, at the stage with Sim is setting it up still without moderators it is very hard to police the above. People peddling websites and stuff wouldn't have lasted on SS thanks to the extra mods helping him out. I'm sure he will announce some moderators soon to help him out which will help to get rid of a) the bullying b) the spruikers (the unlawful ones) c) clean it up a bit

We're like kids in a playground at the moment & with the amount hours that Sim is doing just trying to fix bugs, optimising and figuring out things, there simply isn't enough hours in the day to look after everyone.

I do hope that people aren't deterred from the forum over what I feel will be a temporary issue until things settle down.

    Thanks Jamie

I am sure it is temporary, and Sim is onto it, he is no ones fool.

But please anyone who is bullied, name and shame the offenders, they are cowards, but when they are called out watch them run for the hills.

We are all entitled to have an opinion and let's respect each other.

No different to SS or even the Steve McNight forum from what I've observed so far.

I've said it a thousand times over there, and will say it again here; you need to have a thick skin if you want to be on these places.

The worlds has devolved into a sooky-la-la PC mess, with loads of precious entitled folks - and that's the adults....

There will be lots of arguments and disagreements here, but try and be a bit more reilient, take it on the chin and be an adult.

Of course; everyone needs to be respectful as much as possible...play the ball and not the man.

I have played the man from time to time when I feel it is required - and I've copped my share of abuse. Some of the private attacks on SS have been rippers!!

The figure fudging and "telephone number" investment portfolios and values...that's nothing new either.

    I call it "subliminal brag".

It's funny to read that stuff.

I noticed a brand new post the other day advertising services. On SS this would have been pulled due to not having built up some profile before blatantly advertising the new poster's services. I thought "should I report this to Sim?" but being a different site, with advertising and paid memberships, I thought better of it.

I also have been wondering about whether the mods from SS will be moderating here.

Well said MTR and others. I can see some bitterness coming through today.
***Picking on new members who ask lots of questions is what annoyed me. There's a thread that does this. Just having fun and pulling in the 'likes'? I think it needs to be deleted. ***
Some members could give support via reasonable posts but unfortunately they over-rate their own value and prefer to compete, exaggerate and belittle on the forum. I'm not talking about people in their 20's!!!
Let's keep in mind that the conditions are changing all the time out there. It's not what you've done but what you are doing that matters. Try sharing the successes of your strategy - it might be helpful, it might help others decide if they want to do that or not. If you've got the guts, you'll share what hasn't worked, too.
Some have done really well and I admire them but they often present as too high and mighty to offer real supportive experience and information. I see them wanting to be adored or part of some imaginary 'clique' and not giving anything back.
Also, couldn't we all support Sim by becoming premium members? Especially if we're doing well?

I felt belittled and bullied on the chat room the other day, by sim. Still not sure how I should react. On the one hand I realise this new site needs to pay for itself and the model is to use the 'business' members subscriptions, however I'm not sure I want to become a business member. I never got any business from somersoft, so I'm not sure if $100 a month is worthwhile here.

However while I'm trying to decide, (with a brand new business not yet making any money),I'm getting heavied.
I understand there has been abuse by previous businesses posting on SS. And I do understand being here as a 'business' is valuable, however I think having free members not being able to have signatures is enough. I'm sure things will improve with time. It's a work in progress.

You might need a new profile pic, something brooding, black and white or sepia tones perhaps?

Marc, you're a white, heterosexual, first world, male. You have every possible privilege that it's possible to possess, and there's no reason why you shouldn't be resilient.

Those who don't share all your privileges have had a different experience of the world, and can't simply choose to "be privileged" and have a thicker skin.

(For the love of God don't tell me how poor you've been in the past or something like that; that's not what privilege means.)

I changed my intro. I'm not fussed about the business, it's not something I chased on SS. I was there to further my own knowledge about investment primarily, like I'm sure you are.

    Well said Wattledo
You make some very good points.

I also think the "like" thing should also be deleted, it can attract childlike behaviour and adds no value if used inappropriately. I believe some will misuse and this will change the spirit of the forum in a negative way, not Sim's intention I am sure.
Perhaps Sim could look at similar to what we had on SS, kudos, its remains private, with recipient the only person that can view this.... this I LIKE

How do you know I'm a heterosexual? :) I may not have come out yet. Sorry Mrs.Bayview.

Not sure where you are going with that whole "privilege" one, Perp?

I am not referring to privilege, race, education, position in society, etc.

Just; the ability to roll with it, the ability to let it go through to the keeper, the ability to let it roll off you like water off a duck's back and so on.

That applies to everyone and anyone....it is a learned skill - part of emotional intelligence.

    Sticks and stones etc.

And yes; poor upbringing, single Mum for many years, lots of moving houses and schools etc... never an excuse, in my book...it's how you choose to apply it.

I've been called a ***** and ****** a few times on SS - so, does that mean that I am better equipped to absorb that as a white First World male?

Maybe I am.... In that case; we should all be me!! :)

I really really hate this statement. There should be equal opportunity here. Everyone has the same rights. Just because we like women, live in a good country and don't have a tan doesn't mean we have to tolerate anything additional than the next person.

You shouldn't have to tolerate more, that's not the point. The point is that if somebody does violate social norms and is verbally abusive to a privileged person, they can much more easily "blow it off" than a person with fewer privileges.

And what do you mean by "Just because we like women", for goodness' sake?

I didn't mention rights or opportunities.

Exactly the same thing I meant by living in a good country and by not having a tan. You said white, hetero, Australians should be able to deal with more ****.

And what I meant was, no one of any circumstance should have to deal with anything.

Is that all, some people are just hungry for attention, the others can sometimes insult people without the person knowing they have been insulted in the first place, the best one I was called was "illiterate ******",made me feel important someone had taken the time to say that, plus you never give your less imaginative enemies ideas..

@Perp Do you rather mean that people from other races might not have/develop thick skins as easily ?
I remember watching a show where some Toyota factory worker in Japan was told his work wasn't up to the mark and the guy killed himself due to the humiliation.
