What's a fair price for after hours plumber call out?

    I've got that with NRMA in NSW and had issues with electricity at Christmas!! The cooktop was making the electricity cut out so the Sparky had to make a couple of visits. Well worth it.

    I wouldn't consider that an emergency if it happened to me - I'd just attend to it first thing Monday (organise over the WE). But I'm sure the authorities would disagree. Just something you have to suck up.

    Usually 4 hour minimum charge for emergency work. It is a lot but how much would you want to be paid if you had to leave a family bbq at 7pm on a Saturday night? If the plumber is there for an hour or 3 hours, it's still messed up their night.

    @Ed Barton - hws is an emergency service failure. You might be able to live without a shower for a couple of days but most people wouldn't even in winter.

    Both, used it a few times now. Pilot light for gas hot water, gas leak, broken shower screen.

    I once had a water pipe leak at an IP at 6pm Xmas eve. Managed to get in contact with a plumber, but the cost was astronomical.
