10mins if affordability permits, otherwise 20mins. With that said I regularly see folks that are taking on 30min walks to the stations.

On average we can do 1 km in 12-15 mins while on a lazy stroll, and in 7-8 mins if you walk briskly.

Why haven't you got an air-conditioned garage?

I think it also depends on how frequently you have to do it- so for instance if you are walking to and from the train station every day, 20 minutes is too much (IMHO), 10 minutes is more acceptable. But i'd consider a brunch place or shopping centre that I go to on a weekend that was 20 minutes away acceptable walking distance.

20 minutes = cycling. 15 minutes = walk or cycle.

Walking distance for a beach would be about 5kms if you are a real estate agent
And 100m if you are a buyer

Walking distance can mean it nowhere near a location centre (ie a beach) or can mean its really really close. A bit like oceanviews can mean a massive view or a minor glimpse

Bumping an old thread but I thought it was an interesting topic.

    My view is:

    Transport: 1km max
    Restaurants and cafes: 1km max
Supermarkets (when you are carrying groceries home): 500m max

We had a chat about this at work and people were shocked when I said I thought 2km's was far to walk. I thought I was being lazy till I saw the consensus here was also about 1km :)

Whoa - in that case I reckon walking distance is about 50m - like back to the car.

We have a local IGA and I will pick up a 'few things' and carry them home 400m (uphill!) but I wouldn't/couldn't carry anything like what I call my groceries. Max weight would be 3L milk (and I'd prefer less if walking).

Yeah a pretty full shopping load for me would be more like 200-300m.

But if it's just the daily groceries like some milk, bread etc, 500m would be acceptable.
