Hypothetical: As the title says - what would you buy in real estate? Shouldn't spend on your existing properties (renno, add bedroom etc)

    1. Something rural - block of land with some yield (shed or something)
    2. Something overseas?
    3. Parking spots
    4. Share in some arm-chair development
    5. Timeshares
    6. Boat house and rent it out
    7. Lease land, buy shipping containers and start a storage business?
    8. Portable granny flat (modified shipping container) and lease it people wherever they want it.
    9. Buy land on Mars, Moon etc
    10. Any more thoughts?

I'd call @MTR and ask her to help me buy a US property for that amount. I'm sure we could find something. :D

    Something other than property.
50k is not enough to commit and be able to exit quickly if required to ramp into something else.

An ING account would probably give better returns.

The house in tas seems to be burnt out. The cost of the repairs would be worth more than the house and then you would have overcapitalised.

The strata and management etc fees on the unit would eat around 50% of the returns too.

I second the shares motion. Would more look into decent healthcare companies but if you were so inclined LLC has taken a beatdown of late and looks to be a good buying opportunity. McGrath also comes out with its IPO shortly...

You could only do this once so make it count. As soon as the Chinese get their hands of a sample, there will be more baby fomula factories than Stephen King novels.
