    Amen to that.

Then there will be a new lot of threads against some other component of investing.

    This is a distraction.

Agree @dabbler. But its nothing new. If it was so easy to put in the hours, make all the sacrifices, ignore all the noise and opposition and learn what's needed - everyone would be doing it. :D

Yeah, so all these people complaining they can't afford a house will buy all the new houses - and then complain that their houses aren't going up in value?

I just find it bizzare that on an investing forum so many seem to get sidetracked by all this stuff & the amount that get stuck on the issues that are just political topics largely at this time.

I have a friend who refused to sell his place at auction even though it was very clear he would most likely get the best result at auction. I told him, agent told him and family told him. He just refused to go to auction and went for a 'For Sale'. You know his reason? It was because he didn't want the 'stress' of an auction and didn't care if he got 10s of thousands less in a For sale, as long as there was no Auction.

Nothing is too bizarre that surprises me anymore. Nothing.

No he isn't, but he's been advised really well and still chooses the worst option.

Yeah, I know how that works. I had people ask me about what to invest in re Sydney, the only thing I suggested staying away from is what they have gone for...lol

What I am saying though, is certain people seem to be like, say, a tree hugging greeny who hates motor cars being on a muscle car performance forum.......

Does auction give a better result than private?

Personally I think it depends on a few things whether auctions can produce better results but most importantly depending on the market, location and type of dwelling.

On PC, I know you can choose to "ignore" another member.

Just wondering whether it is possible to ignore posts or threads that contain certain words or phases?

One that comes to mind is "Negative Gearing"

I started a new job in April, just in time for Naplan. On top of being abused three times a week by the 14 year old son of a stoner, I have been teaching a year 7 Reading Recovery class how to write better. I think I will start a thread on how the ignorant use the word "racist" as the first thing that comes to their minds when they want to insult someone.

I'm an avid listener of triple J at work and lately I've noticed more and more socialist views creeping in and a clear disgust for people with apparent or true wealth.

First was continual remarks during a Dr Karl segment where he happened to mention he had 2 shower heads in his bathroom. Co host proceeded to label him a Millionaire and rich on a number of occasions because in her words.
Only millionaires could possibly afford to have 2 shower heads in a bathroom.

The latest was last week when the breakfast guys cherry picked some back page article on tradesman wages and blanketed all tradies as charging $58,$68,$78 an hour and that lawyers earn a mere pittance at $37 an hour in comparison.

Of course many were quick to point out that those rates are contracting / business rates and that the real figure for a qualified workers in CBD's actually between $20 - $35 after taxes.
Then the lawyers chimed in set the record straight and stated they are actually charging $300 and $400 an hour.

The hosts promptly began back peddling and I'm pretty sure I could hear them tugging at their shirt collars through the speakers.

I was astounded at the low level real world education that some of these people sprouting on air to the youth of today have ( real or implied ).

Well, that thread should be a treat. Look forward to more mentions of these so-called "queue-jumpers" and how refugees should work as virtual slaves.

You should take these ideas public! Run for office!

With regards to the NG question, all of my calculations have not accounted for NG, I did this due to the uncertainty surrounding it.

If it goes away, my figures work, if it doesn't go away, I get a nice little bonus :).
