Datto Stanza 1.6L with 5sp.. paid about $2k but for a 20yo car it was in awesome condition.
Then it got new suspension, brakes, and I rebuilt a 2.0L motor and shoe-horned it in...
It was a great little car, and I would have kept it (with the aim of it retiring into service as a rally car) but some drunk guy smashed into me and put the rear-bumper into the back seat.

    I was kidding.

My first car was a second hand Hillman Arrow. I can't remember the year of manufacture.

I think Dad and Mum paid $900 for it in 1973.

I learnt to drive on a Willys Knight. I don't know its year of manufacture. They built them from 1914 to 1933.

I was probably 7 or 8 at the time. I would guess it would have been a late 1920's/early 1930's model. I do remember it had timber running boards. Also, one year when I came home from boarding school, I ran it into a shed (Dad forgot to tell me that it gad no brakes).

Was that movie Q relevant to anything other than a car related movie MTR?

Also, perhaps you missed Daves Q?

Obviously no comparison to today's quality but plenty of great Aussie movies made during those years backed by Bob Hawke tax incentives.
    My favourite car related ones (clickable);
    Running on Empty
    Midnight Spares
    FJ Holden
    Freedom
There's also some great old cars in - Puberty Blues
And of-course Mad Max 1&2 (2 being my fav)
Like the last one 3 was to Americanised, plus this wally

I remember thinking about this when I was buying a baby stroller eight years ago. That stroller costed more than my first car!

    1990 Mazda 121 for $900 with 9 months rego.

The fuel gauge didn't work and I had to use the odometer. Running late to work once, ignored said odometer and broke down on the way :(

Was a great car though, ran reasonably well (until it blew a head gasket the week before I moved out of home, or the time it wouldn't go up the mountain on the way to Blaxland) and even had air conditioning lol

Ended up with every colour paint on it from continually side swiping cars, was a very bad driver

My first car was an old black Plymouth at the ripe old age of 15.I think from memory I gave $60 for it and kept it on my mates farm.He had a FE Holden and we used to race around all the back roads in the area until an understanding copper thought we might be better off confining our driving activities to the farm.I then had a great EH Panel Van which was very handy for the drive in etc, in those days. Then it was a HR Special which purred along for a couple of years and then onto a HK 327 Monaro
which I also kept for a few years.

71 Beetle. Bought for $1500 when 18. Sold for $3300 when 22 to go o/s. Wish I'd kept it but the young guy who bought it still has it - I've seen him driving it over the years. Last time was in Parra about 6 or 7 years ago.

    77 LX Torana 202 trimatic beast!

Had it lowered, mags, extractors, 350 holley. Fuel economy equivalent of a 308... without the performance

Absolutely James, worth a lot of money these days they say, as is the EH panel van apparently as it had no side windows and they are also quite rare.
