Hello there, im Jim from lower north shore Sydney. I'm a middle aged pom wifes a kiwi and been here a few years so just have $225k in our smsf. Ive got a bit here and a bit there so $100-150k left to put towards buying an investment property.
we've been suggested an apartment in Adelaide or a cheaper house somewhere central coast (umina) or hunter valley region (Muswellbrook).
Can I please have any and all thoughts on the best area / type of property to buy in. Im not looking to turn it into a million dollars overnight - just dont want to lose it in 6 months.
    Thanks very much
    Jim

Term deposits? Wont turn into a million and you wont lose it.

Jokes aside, how about a realistic expected return? How much do you want / need to get to your goal.

Hi trainee. term depos after tax dont beat inflation and theres no "unlimited upside" anything circa 7%-10% would be great given my risk appetite

Plenty of threads pointing to avoid units in Adl, timing of growth in Bris/Goldie corridor, bottoming out of Perth, peaking Melb/Syd markets and some not so recent stuff on Newcastle/ Maitland/ Muswellbrook

Indirect property eg listed property trusts, unlisted trusts and syndicates. They all come with risks.
