I have had friends who came up from Sydney and had the exact same experience!

Enjoy. Both Brisbane and gold coast are a very good time to invest right now.

Yes Southbank/ Street Beach is lovely. Have a swim, picnic... Pity the APT8 for kids might be finished by then. Take them to the museum and art gallery. Walk to CBD via Kurilpa Bridge, take the free city loop bus. Go to Roma Street Parklands. Check out the Court area. Go to "the Cube" in QUT.

And look at the new developments thruout those walks!

And regardless... this is a great thread that doesn't just help the OPs. All of us with an interest in Brisbane but don't live there can pick up some tips.

Yep! Any suggestions for getting from Coolangatta Airport to the GC for 7 people? (2 of who require baby seats)

I'm thinking bus will be cheapest

Some Ubers are 7-seaters but I'm not sure how you'd book ones with carseats for babies/toddlers.

I presume you mean Surfers Paradise. Check out translink.com.au for public transport during your stay. Not sure if TransLink offers airport transport options but if it's like Brisbane airport rail a maxi taxi could be cheaper for that many people.

If you're going to use public transport get a go card the fares are 30% cheaper than a paper ticket.

Mt Cootha is a short trip up the hill overlooking Brisbane offering a gorgeous restaurant and offers views over Brisbane with the meandering river throughout...Manly is gorgeous too especially on a Sunday (train line gets you there) esp Sunday mornings - it has markets, huge yacht club, boutique shops and restaurants and a public pool with huge slides for kids for only $3 a child to get in - Manly is a suburb on the water...likewise about 500 meters down the road at Wynnum-Manly there is a huge sea salt water pool for the community parallel to the waterfront that is free with a slide in the middle for the kids...BBQ facilities all around

As mentioned before - inner city New Farm - check out New Farm park along the river and the Watt restaurant is great - take a ferry from New Farm across the river to Bulimba (directly across the river) and you hit Oxlade drive with a huge number of restaurants, boutique shops and parklands with BBQ facilities for the family to enjoy

If you want to experience a lovely 'country style' family experience drive 20 mins North West to Samford - horse country, huge park in centre of the suburb with a train and machinery museum, swings, little craft shop, multiple restaurants and boutique shops and showgrounds with equestrian events

When at North Brisbane pop over the Gateway bridge to Manly ...you will love it ...waterfront, yachts, markets, restaurants etc and airport close to Gateway bridge on your way back

Depending on where you're staying, a lot of things like the beach are within walking distance.
But might be difficult with the littlies.

We hire cars all the time for planning business. Overnight is dear, 2 days is almost the same price as a week a lot of the time.I paid $240 for a commodore for a week with unlimited km's through Hertz

Cab it down to Sunnybank for some awesome food. It's only 12k's from town, would be cheap with Uber.
