It may have been spending a lot of time in Perth and the Plbara recently, the places I grew up and so desperate to escape..but on return, I have had pangs of remorse for my youth.

Just heavy bouts of nostalgia about the innocence of that age and that l'll never experience those youthful transgressions again. Music is a powerful prod as well and Perth radio stations do seem to inordinately play a lot of 80 and 90s music which does seem to transport me back in time to my school and uni days.

What surprises me is that I never thought I'd consider an entire weekend at home in my ugg boots with no plans whatsoever an absolute luxury :D:D:D

Surprised at how long my body takes to recover.

I used to be a tradesman, then go surfing straight from work, then hit up at the gym at night because I just couldn't sleep unless I was exhausted.

Now just walking 18 holes carrying my golf bag makes my legs sore for a day or two, and I struggle to surf for more than 2 or 3 hours. I am only 30 but being sore from exercise was foreign to me until a couple of years ago.

It surprised me how long it has taken to bounce back from injury esp broken bones - maybe I should give up risky sports.

    Golf is too sedate.

I still surf and skate, but golf is something that has me hooked. Plus I figure it will be the last sport my body will be able to handle eventually, there is a 94 year old who plays at my local course.

    Reminds me of this:

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the
intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming -- WOW-- What a Ride!"

Im there. care less and less about wealth creation and more and more about living life to the fullest. And in saying that the things I want to do are much less costly as well.

The thing I have noticed (positively, as against the negatives all mentioned above) is in my work, which is hard physically (Landscaping construction), is that I can get the hard bits done allot easier these days.
You get cunning in how you can manoeuvre heavy things that you could once pick up easily but now can't. Also how to "hold" things that once needed another set of hands in order to fix them together etc.
Quite happy to "poke along" on my own with headphones on and all that 70's, 80's, 90's and latest music going, makes the hard stuff seem very easy indeed!

    Cool thread.
The older i get the more i realize how relative and individualistic getting older is or at least can be.
Without being unrealistic, the more i age, the more i realize that to some extent, age is really just a number and that i can actually control it or influence for the better or the worse.

You can be fit an able at 70(mind and body wise) or as brittle as a twig at 45. The choice can be yours...

I'm fit as a twig or brittle as a fiddle. I can't make up my mind.

The older i get the more alcohol is a liability. The antics as a young fool could be laughed off the next day. Now as an employee, husband, mortgage holder etc... must be a tad more responsible, sigh

Being young was when snap, crackle and pop were sounds from my breakfast cereal, not my body.

I keep getting the question/comment from people after they find out we are moving to the coast.... "so you are retiring?"

    I then say...."do I look that old?"
