My dad is only mid 60’s but had a serious op to remove a cancer on his tongue - seeing him in hospital all hooked up to machines was confronting - but the beauty of family is so evident in those moments.

This annoys me no end! I think it's really rude for a young person to address an older person as Luv, sweetie, darl...or any of the other sickeningly sweet names that come out of their mouths. It is quite condesending, and something you might say to a young child, not an older person.

What has taken me by surprise is all the loose, wrinkly skin. My hands look like they belong to an old person, and this has come about quite quickly. The other thing is my memory. I used to have impeccable spelling, but I often can't seem to work out even easy words some days, and at other times I stop mid sentence as I've suddenly forgotten what I was going to say.

I can recall at 21, thinking anyone over 50 was ancient! Now approaching sixty I often laugh about those thoughts. So the ever increasing evaporation of time has surprised me the most.
I can remember when we won the "Americas cup" in 1983 vividly; and it seems like yesterday.
It was 35 years ago!! Where did that time go?

I recently learned that mumsy usually has $10-20k in her handbag. No wonder she has such big biceps!

I'm 30. But I'd like to comment on how I've grown over the last 10 years. I hope I won't be laughed at because I'm still fairly young.

My priorities have changed. The most important thing to me now is the strength of the relationships I have with others. It can be as simple as wanting to make my coworkers day easier, or wanting to ensure that my long term friendships are strong (I don't have family).

I also have a different definition of happiness. Nothing makes me happier than contributing to the happiness of others. It's my perception that people younger than me prioritise fun.

    It's the ways it's said.

I've been called a homosexual and wanted to punch the person in the head. I've been called a *** and quite fine with it. I know a woman who calls everyone hon, sweetie, luv, darling etc - it's just her.

How do you feel about being called ma'am?

Cosmetic hand surgery is relatively cheap and even cheaper in Asia or India.

I'm surprised how often I recognise a voice but not a face.

I'm actually improving with my old age.

Thirty years ago I used to struggle carrying $50 worth of groceries. Now I can handle it easily.

Nope, it's not the way that it's said at all, and I'm perfectly fine with being called ma'am.

LOL! I'm not going to get surgery.

These days $50 worth of groceries can fit into one or two bags and can be carried in one hand. That is shocking.

My 82 year old Mum got me to take her to the shops today. Mitchelton is a post-war suburb and I am pretty used to taking her to the RSL. Thinking about this thread, I noticed so many old people at Woolies. You know, like 90 old.

Back in my formative years, "old" people like my grandparents seemed to die about the time they reached 70.

I suppose for me is that the older I get, the younger that age feels. When I was 20 I would have assured you that the age I am now (43) is positively ancient. Now that I'm 43 I don't feel old nor do I feel that I'm going to be old any time soon.
My body oftens feels older than my brain but I can deal with that.
My aim in life is to grow old disgracefully.
