Have you considered replacing the overhead cupboard doors and maybe the 4 draw fronts with a contrasting colour ? maybe dark timber look ? You could probably pick them up second hand.

Investment $ & time vs return..
Simple. If return on investment is there then go ahead. Otherwise why take on a task just for the sake of it..

People see through quick fix tart ups. Why compromise a solid quality kitchen for some new age cheap refurb items?

It's not a Logan 80's kitchen which any cash spent will be an improvement.

If money was to be spent it would be:
    Sink
    Mixer
    Range
    Stove
    Keep frame of cupboards
    Replace doors and benchtop
    Splash back tiles
    Etc etc.

So there is $5 at least wothout blinking, plus the time getting it done. Let's say closed to 10k.

Is that going to generate $20k return?

Yeah... saw a home in Eastwood that had painted over tiles in the bathroom, it looked really obvious and cheap... now this is supposed to appeal to OO's, and Eastwood is not a budget area... big turnoff. Could be losing buyers that were more than willing to pay a premium due to that cheapness.
